Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease your baking dish.
- Peel the russet potatoes and slice them thinly—about 1/8 inch thick.
- In a bowl, whisk together heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and half of the grated sharp cheddar cheese until smooth.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased dish. Pour half of the creamy mixture over this first layer, then repeat with the remaining potatoes and cream mixture.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- After 45 minutes, remove the foil, sprinkle the remaining cheese on top, and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Let the dish rest for about 10 minutes before serving.
