How to Make Chocolate Frosting
- Begin by placing the unsalted butter and unsweetened cocoa powder in a mixing bowl. Use a hand mixer to blend them together until the mixture is smooth and well-combined, about 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually sprinkle in the powdered sugar while mixing on low speed. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Pour in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Mix on low speed until just combined, then increase the speed momentarily.
- Raise the mixer speed to medium-high and continue to beat the frosting for about 2-3 minutes.
- Use immediately to frost cakes or cupcakes, spreading generously.
